Left atrial appendage flow velocities: assessment by velocity encoded magnetic resonance imaging
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction The presence of reduced LAA flow velocities indicates patients who are prone to thrombus formation in the LAA and therefore being at high risk for subsequent cardioembolic stroke. LAA flow velocities are typically assessed by TEE in clinical routine. VENC-MRI is an established tool for the quantification of transvalvular flow, but the feasibility of LAA flow measurements by VENC-MRI has not been studied so far.

Left atrial and left atrial appendage 4D blood flow dynamics in atrial fibrillation
BACKGROUND Atrial 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging was used for the characterization of left atrial (LA) and left atrial appendage (LAA) flow dynamics in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). METHODS AND RESULTS 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging measured in vivo 3D blood flow velocities in 60 AF patients and 15 controls. Anatomic maps of LA and LAA stasis and velocity were calculated to ...
متن کاملVelocity encoded cardiovascular magnetic resonance to assess left atrial appendage emptying
BACKGROUND The presence of impaired left atrial appendage (LAA) function identifies patients who are prone to thrombus formation in the LAA and therefore being at high risk for subsequent cardioembolic stroke. LAA function is typically assessed by measurements of LAA emptying velocities using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in clinical routine. This study aimed at evaluating the feasibil...
متن کاملImaging of thrombi and assessment of left atrial appendage function: a prospective study comparing transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography.
OBJECTIVE To compare the value of current transthoracic echocardiographic systems and transoesophageal echocardiography for assessing left atrial appendage function and imaging thrombi. DESIGN Single blind prospective study. Patients were first investigated by transthoracic echocardiography and thereafter by a second investigator using transoesophageal echocardiography. The feasibility of ima...
متن کاملAssessment of coronary flow velocity reserve using fast velocity-encoded cine MRI for noninvasive detection of restenosis after coronary stent implantation.
PURPOSE Serial change of the coronary flow velocity reserve was evaluated with fast velocity-encoded cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for noninvasive detection of restenosis after coronary stent implantation. METHOD In total, 60 MRI flow studies were performed in 10 patients with coronary artery disease who undersvent elective successful stent implantation to the lesion in the proximal l...
متن کاملThe assessment of atrial function by velocity-encoded magnetic resonance imaging
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess velocity-encoded cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (Ve-CMR) in a population of patients referred for cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), to determine the variability of atrial function, and to identify clinical parameters associated with left atrial function. Methods: This is a prospective study evaluating patients who were referred t...
